Part mischief, part devotional ritual, this digital series uses Google Sheets to recreate the meditative, transcendental, and wholeheartedly human works of Agnes Martin. By reproducing her painstaking and exacting markmaking within formulaic and overtly pedestrian office software, I draw attention to the divergent qualities of these processes—but I also sympathize with the impulse to create discrete systems of control, even or especially within frameworks that deserve our cynicism.
