Waiting Room
Screenprinted fabric wallpaper
54” x 18 feet
December 2021
Imagined as wallpaper for a doctor’s office or other everyday liminal space, Waiting Room is a 4-way repeat pattern printed at the Fabric Workshop and Museum. Cheerful illustrations vibrate in playful color, emphasizing how these rooms serve to distract their occupants from both somber and relentlessly boring circumstances.
Dum Dums and fake plants brush up against prescription pads and medication bottles; herbal tea floats next to bathroom keys. With magazines featuring celebrity diets and more serious subject matter—including a journalistic spread on Breonna Taylor and the movement for Black lives—the pattern underlines the absurdity and emptiness of these simple diversions.
